Last week, our Province Center hosted Sisters and Brothers of Immigrants (SBI), a collaborative ministry of religious women and men and lay partners who give collective voice to justice for immigrants.

Br. Michael chaired this meeting, gathering several religious women and men and some lay partners for their shared ministry.
Br. Michael Gosch, CSV helps organize the group, and he hosted and chaired the monthly meeting. The members come from peer communities in the Catholic Church with a shared interest in ministries such as Viator House of Hospitality, Bethany House of Hospitality, public witness for immigrants, and more. As our Church faces various challenges regarding staffing and budgeting, collaborative efforts like this that are built on diverse partnerships are a more sustainable and robust model for effective ministry together.
For this summer, the group includes Sarah Miklius, an alumna of Saint Viator High School. She is interning at Viator House as she works toward a master’s in social work.
One major effort of the group is compiling news links, advocacy actions, and upcoming events. Every Monday, SBI member Sr. Rose Therese Nolta, SSpS distributes this bulletin to the SBI members and their communities.
As our community’s Coordinator for Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation, Br. Michael works with the Viatorian communications office to publish these bulletins to SBI’s website as well as our Viatorians.com Peace & Justice page. There, you can also find public statements, letters, and petitions signed by the Provincial Council of our community and other timely alerts, stories, and newsletters. Additionally, Br. Michael curated and maintains a directory of essential peace and justice organizations in that page’s Links section.
Viatorians are called to identify who society is trying to account of little importance and discern and enact responses that seek greater social justice. So, we encourage readers to explore and check in on the P&J tab of our website and utilize these resources in support of living a lively and enlightened faith that serves and upholds our sisters and brothers.
