Taize Prayer
Taizé Prayer is a form of ecumenical prayer that utilizes music, Scripture, ritual, petitional prayer, and silence, usually in a candlelit setting that invites quiet and contemplation. Taizé music consists of simple refrains and basic melodies that are sung with repetition, meant to be used as mantras that center those who gather.
Taizé Prayer originated with an ecumenical community monk of Christians in Taizé, France, who gather daily with large international groups of visitors to chant and pray together. The style of prayer is known for bringing together Christians of many different traditions and for utilizing several languages, often simultaneously within multi-lingual arrangements of the songs.
