Amanda Murphy graduated in 2017 from Saint Viator High School and that summer she and her mother, Sharon, tended a plot in the Viatorian Giving Garden on the grounds of the Province Center in Arlington Heights.

In this episode of Viatorian Voices: Conversations on the Way, Amanda describes raising vegetables for local food pantries and her growing awareness of sustainable gardening as part of living out Catholic social teaching.

At the same time, meet Kat Hoenke, program director for the Saint Kateri Conservation Center. She describes her role in bringing to life educational programs for the Catholic conservation organization, including registering gardens across the country as Saint Kateri habitats. The Viatorian Giving Garden earned that designation in March.

“We’re trying to lift up the voices of those who are already caring for the environment,” says Kat says, “and make Catholics aware of how to do it.”
