Catholic high schools help students live out and grow their faith, and schools are also often uplifting parents, grandparents, and families through the faith life of the school. Br. Carlos Flórez, CSV, has a new initiative to further this ministry in the Cristo Rey St. Viator community: the Prayer & Walk Group.

A few photos of the growing group over these first few weeks!

At the beginning of the school year, Br. Carlos, who serves CRSV as Director of Catholic and Viatorian Identity, invited folks to join him on a Saturday morning at the school’s athletics fields. His plan for those who came out was simply to walk the track, share some prayers, and start the day outdoors together.

The group spread the word about their positive experience, and the numbers increased week after week. Now, the Prayer & Walk Group has become a fixture on Saturday mornings on campus. “Our prayer-and-walk is becoming a heartbeat of our school’s Catholic and Viatorian identity,” Br. Carlos said.

The Viatorians founded Cristo Rey St. Viator in North Las Vegas, Nevada. After years of careful study and planning in the 2010s, the school welcomed its first students in 2019. The brand-new campus was purpose-built for underserved young people to help create greater access for them to excellent education and faith formation. In addition to great classrooms and modern common spaces, this campus also has brand new athletics facilities, including their outdoor field and track. Now, in addition to the growing athletics program of the school, the community’s Prayer & Walk Group gathers each Saturday to utilize the campus as well.

The name Viator comes from the word for traveler, or one “on the way.” May God bless our new Viatorian group of walkers as they pray together each Saturday on their way.
