One day before schools opened across the Bourbonnais/Kankakee region, Fr. John Peeters, CSV, carried out a beloved tradition that brought comfort to students, parents and faculty alike: a blessing of the backpacks.

Near the end of Sunday Mass, Fr. Peeters called school children in attendance to come up to the sanctuary for the special blessing. He described their attendance at school as a vocation and God would safeguard them — and their backpacks — each day.
“As these students carry these backpacks,” Fr. Peeters said, “may they be reminded of the love and care that surrounds them each and every day.”
