“During the course of your life, no matter how long you live, this moment of your confirmation will be one of the most special moments of encountering God.”

Bishop Daniel Conlon conferred the sacrament of confirmation on students at Maternity BVM Parish in Bourbonnais, and he encouraged the eighth graders to open their hearts to this very special encounter.

“Every once in a while there’s a unique and special encounter with God, when we are really aware that God has entered our life and done something special,” he said. “Confirmation is one of those moments.”

Confirmation took place Sunday, during a Mass filled with sacred music, ritual and reverence. Bishop Conlon concelebrated the liturgy, with Fr. Jason Nesbit, CSV, Pastor, Fr. Moses Mesh, CSV, Associate Pastor and Deacon Patrick Skelly. Students, their sponsors, families and catechists filled the historic church, which is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year.

“The Holy Spirit will remain with you the rest of your life, to guide you, protect you and inspire you to make your life a gift of God to other people and the whole world,” Bishop Conlon said. “The coming of the Holy Spirit upon you in this sacrament — will transform you.”
