Viatorians join countless others today in mourning the death of Pope Francis. Faithful to the Second Vatican Council, he offered consolation and hope to those “accounted of little importance in our world” and was an eloquent witness to humble service that Christ has enjoined on all who would call themselves his disciples.
Pope Francis’ last Easter message leaves us with a challenge that we all need to put into practice.
“On this day, I would like all of us to hope anew and to revive our trust in others, including those who are different than ourselves, or who come from distant lands, bringing unfamiliar customs, ways of life and ideas! For all of us are children of God!”
May our beloved pastor be welcomed by God with the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant, … enter in to the joy of your Master.” (Mt. 25:21)

In July 2024, Viatorians in Italy for the General Chapter took part in a special audience with Pope Francis where the late pope spoke specifically to several religious congregations of professed men and women. Our leadership had a front-row seat and sat next to the pope for the group photo, and then they had the chance to briefly meet Pope Francis, including these moments for Br. Rob Robertson, CSV (left), Fr. Mark Francis, CSV (center), and Br. Peter Lamick, CSV (right).
