KLAS News 8 in Las Vegas visited Cristo Rey St. Viator this week to highlight Evelyn Saldaña, a graduate of the Class of 2025.
News 8 reporter Ozzy Mora reported on Evelyn’s hard work across these four years, achieving a major goal for her and her family in graduating high school, and what Evelyn hopes for her future.
.
“I want to be an advocate,” Evelyn said. “What I’m doing to be an active leader is to communicate with all the people in my groups and in my clubs,” including student council, National Honors Society, gardening club, and campus ministry.
Br. Carlos Flórez, CSV is Director of Catholic and Viatorian Identity for CRSV, and he celebrates her living out CRSV’s core values: have faith; work hard; respect all; be a service leader. “Evelyn is a young woman of quiet strength and deep integrity. What stands out most is her humility — she carries herself with grace and a sincere desire to grow, not only academically but also as a person of faith and service.”

Br. Carlos celebrates Evelyn’s active involvement in campus ministry, where she frequently participates in service outreach and is a dedicated music minister at school liturgy. “Evelyn is a quiet light who uplifts others not with grand gestures but through consistent kindness, thoughtful presence, and open heart. She reminds us that leadership is often lived out in the small, faithful moments of daily life,” Br. Carlos said.
Evelyn told News 8 that she plans to study psychology and political science at Chapman University in California and work toward law school. Br. Carlos sees a great fit on that path. “With God’s continued guidance and the blessing of our Venerable Fr. Louis Querbes, I believe she is destined for a bright and meaningful future as a lawyer, bringing integrity, wisdom, and a profound sense of justice to her profession.”
For families of limited means, Cristo Rey Network schools create new access to high-quality education, faith formation, and work experience, and Cristo Rey St. Viator witnesses extraordinary commitment and dedication from its students and families. “They worked so hard to get me to every moment,” Evelyn told News 8.
As Cristo Rey St. Viator celebrates its third graduating class, Br. Carlos – an administrator since the school’s inception – is proud to witness the growth of more and more graduates, especially Evelyn. “For us in the Viatorian family, Evelyn represents hope. She is a testament to what is possible when a young person is nurtured in a community rooted in faith, inclusion, and love for one another.”
