After two years of academic and scientific research, as well as studying the design of the infrastructure of Colegio San Viator Tunja, Viatorians hosted its first family open house. It took place Aug. 5 and by all accounts succeeded in showing local families and visitors its innovative educational projects, which seek to integrate mental health, sports, arts, music, science, technology and pets.

Families enjoyed visiting with dogs during the open house.

“The event was a complete success, due to its originality and the innovative approach that has always characterized the Viatorian educational work in the region,” says Fr. Fredy Contreras, CSV, Rector.

What visitors liked most, he said, was seeing the emotional support mediated with pets. Introducing this form of pet therapy is meant to help regulate the moods of children and young people throughout the academic day, through group meetings, workshops for parents, recreational activities, visits of pets to classrooms and comprehensive therapeutic development with the support of the school’s Emotional Development Center, or CSV Emotion.

Fr. Fredy Contreras welcomes families.

Visiting families also enjoyed seeing the STEAM LAB, where science and technology students will be able to expand their knowledge through the use of the Gaming Room, Maker Lab and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Viatorians established Colegio San Viator Tunja in 2017, after taking it over from another religious community. Since then, they have continually worked to upgrade its offerings, including earning certifications as an International Baccalaureate School and a National Bilingual School.

Students enjoyed trying the virtual reality goggles.

Set amid the Eastern range of the Colombian Andes, the colegio features all the qualities of a Viatorian education, namely one that is faith-based, co-educational and pastoral, with professed Viatorians on its faculty and staff.

“Viatorians present in Tunja continue to grow and innovate,” Fr. Contreras adds, “without losing the essence of being a Catholic school that seeks the formation of people with a purpose for the world.”
