Christian nationalism is an ideology merging American identity with a specific, often fundamentalist, interpretation of Christianity, holding that the U.S. was founded as a Christian nation and that the government should actively promote this status. It seeks to blend Christian values with public policy, sometimes creating, an exclusionary atmosphere regarding non-Christians and non-white citizens.
