Viator House of Hospitality is a residential ministry of hope, healing, and opportunity for young men seeking asylum in the United States, and central to this ministry is persistent outreach to build a wide interfaith partnership, educate people on immigration, and spur action in support of people in immigration.

For the past several months, Viator House staff have been posting “VHH 101” notes on social media. The short posts share about the law, political debates, news, legal processes, and more areas that impact the accompaniment and support provided to its participating young men.

Starting in the new year, the staff has moved VHH 101 to video, where this information is shared in short video messages from Fr. Corey Brost, CSV, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Viator House.

In the first video, on January 6, Fr. Corey explains the process by which young men come to Viator House, rooted in the law. “Under the current law – one we need to protect in 2026 – young people who escape to the US alone are put into government-funded shelters and kept safe,” he says.

He describe the steps by which a young man goes from arriving to the US as an unaccompanied minor to becoming a residential participant at Viator House.

In the second video, posted on January 14, Fr. Corey describes in more detail how young men living at Viator House seek asylum to remain in the United States legally. “Asylum is a statutory avenue for legal relief, originally established by Congress following our failure to protect Jews around World War II,” Fr. Corey said.

One key area of the asylum process is substantiating how these young men have been persecuted or would be persecuted in their country of origin for their race, religion, political beliefs, or membership in a persecuted group.

As Catholics and Viatorians, we are called to be informed citizens whose faith moves us to act for justice as we live our Gospel values in Christ.

We invite you to follow Viator House on Facebook and Instagram and keep up with these informative resources.

Viator House, along with many friends and partners, continues monthly public witness in support of people in immigration – including next Friday, January 23, 5-6pm, in Arlington Heights, at the corner of Northwest Highway and Arlington Heights Road.

Let us continue to work together to pray and act for social justice.
