Saint Viator High School is a generous community with a heart for service, and at Christmas time, the school-wide toy collection for the CBS News Chicago holiday drive and its toy trolley got some extra spotlight.

“What an exciting day at Saint Viator! All our students lined the halls and formed a human chain from the gym to the front door to load the over 900 brand new toys for local children,” Br. Rob Robertson, CSV, a counselor at Saint Viator, said. “Our students were so excited to be part of this. There was joy in the halls with the choir singing carols and students wearing festive hats and Christmas colors. It was pure joy to see the smiles on everyone’s faces, knowing we’re part of making Christmas a little brighter for others.”

CBS News Chicago reporter Jackie Kostek stopped by Saint Viator in the toy trolley to collect the donations and visit the school. In the live broadcast segment, she talked with a few students about the spirit and character of the school community.

“Obviously, you have your family at home, but this is my family at school,” Isaiah, a senior who transferred to Saint Viator before his junior year, said. “It’s a whole different environment here, and I’m truly blessed to come to school here every day.”

“This tradition is one of our favorites. It lets us bring joy to families outside of our school. Watching everyone come together shows us what Christmas can be like,” Erin said.
