Viatorians join with the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) in condemning the Trump administration’s proposal to accept into the U.S. fewer refugees than ever before in our country’s history.

“This administration has once again turned its back on refugees around the world, who are fleeing for their lives at record number,” said NIJC Executive Director Mary Meg McCarthy.

Viatorians joins the NIJC in standing in solidarity with refugees worldwide. Here is the full NIJC response.

On a related note, Viatorians strongly believe refugees should have the right to an appointed counsel. The Funding Attorneys for Indigent Removal (FAIR) Proceedings Act, introduced in both the House and Senate, takes critical steps to restore due process in U.S. immigration courts by requiring appointed counsel where most needed. Pro bono attorneys with NIJC shared why they believe we need appointed counsel in immigration court.
