With the Labor Day holiday over, school is back in session where Viatorians serve — and that means they were able to start the year off with all-school Masses.

Fr. Dan Lydon and students before the processional

At Saint Viator High School, students and faculty gathered together as a community in its Cahill Gym to celebrate. Led by the school’s new president, Fr. Daniel Lydon, CSV, they opened the year with the Mass of the Holy Spirit, a traditional opening of the academic year to pray for God’s guidance and protection.

Fr. Lydon shares his thoughts on the new year in his homily.

“It was the first time since January 2020,” administrators said. “We are grateful to everyone, particularly our campus ministry and building and grounds teams, for making it possible.”

Fr. Rinn during the consecration

At St. Viator Parish School in Las Vegas, Fr. Richard Rinn, CSV, Pastor, celebrated a similar opening Mass for the school community.

“It’s a brand new year and we enjoyed our first all-school Mass of the year,” teachers said.

Students return to their classrooms after Mass.

As a community, St. Viator parish staff and school faculty are driven by their vision, of developing the future today through Catholic Education. Together, take their lead from the Book of Micah, in the Old Testament: “Act justly, love tenderly and walk humbly with God and each other.”
