The Latin America Working Group — working with other international rights organizations — has created a memo, which outlines the promises and challenges for peace in Colombia. It comes a little more than two years after the signing of the peace agreement between the Colombian government and FARC.
Essentially, the memo recommends ways the United States can contribute to sustainable solutions to preserve Colombia’s fragile peace.
“The United States played a critical role in advancing the peace process in Colombia,” the memo states. “Today, however, while aid for peace accord implementation continues, U.S. diplomatic support for peace accord implementation has diminished, replaced with a focus on counternarcotics and the crisis in Venezuela.
