The Viatorian Community joins the rest of the world in mourning the death of South African leader, Nelson Mandela. Mandela

In doing so, Viatorian associates, brothers and priests acknowledge the personal sacrifices he made in order to ensure the equality of all South Africans.

We know that it is no coincidence that his official memorial service on Tuesday, at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, falls on International Human Rights Day — and the 65th anniversary of the adoption and proclamation of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

We are grateful for his life devoted to defending human rights not only in South Africa but throughout the world.

May he rest in peace.
