The Viatorian Community joins members of the Conference of Major Superiors of Men and the U. S. Catholic Conference of Bishops in acknowledging the disproportionate impact the coronavirus has had on African American communities.

They also condemn xenophobia against Americans of Asian and Pacific Island heritage and call for “a stop to racially motivated, discriminatory actions and attitudes, for they are attacks against human life and dignity.”

In a statement issued May 5, the bishops strongly condemned racism and xenophobia in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“While we continue to pray fervently for an end to the pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus, we call for a firm rejection of racial categorizations or presumptions, racially based verbal assaults or slurs, and for an end to all forms of violence.”
