Officials with the Chicago-based Voices for Creative Nonviolence offer an article by Brian Terrell, questioning whether a return to normalcy is the ultimate goal after the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.
In his article, “COVID-19 and the Wasting Disease of Normalcy,” he opens with the question — written 50 years ago in a prison cell by Jesuit priest and war resister, Daniel Berrigan — “But what of the price of peace?”
He includes thoughts from climate activist Greta Thunberg, to Pope Francis and even the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who writes: “There are ways forward we never imagined – at huge cost, with great suffering – but there are possibilities and I’m immensely hopeful.”
