Members of the Viatorian Community submitted an op-ed to local papers to encourage President Obama and Congress to consider using non-military alternatives to deter ISIS militants in the Iraq and Syrian regions.
Taking its lead from a letter submitted by the Conference of Major Superiors of Men, Viatorians looked to Pope Francis, who desribed war, as “senseless slaughter.”
“It drags people into a spiral of violence,” he said, “which then proves difficult to control. It tears down what generations have labored to build up, and it sets the scene for even greater injustices and conflicts.”
