The Viatorian Community continues to call for the release of the 166 men who remain trapped at Guantánamo. The vast majority have never been, and will never be, charged with any crime. Of these, 86 have been cleared for release. Almost all of the men are on hunger strike since Feb 6, 2013, and this month, their strike will reach 100 days. It is time for the U.S. government to take action.
As a member of the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, Viatorians join with more than 300 religious organizations in working together to end U.S.-sponsored torture. We all share a basic understanding and affirmation of the inherent dignity of each individual, and we are called to pursue justice to assure that all people are treated fairly.
Viatorians also support the work of the organization, Witness Against Torture, whose activists have worked tirelessly for the closing of Guantanamo since 2005. They helped to produce the following video.
