Call for a Commission of Inquiry!

To promote Torture Awareness Month (June), the Viatorian Provincial Council of the Province of Chicago, endorsed National Religious Campaign Against Torture’s statement, U.S. Sponsored Torture: A Call for a Commission of Inquiry at its meeting on June 4, 2009.  Although President Barack Obama issued an Executive Order halting torture on January 22, 2009, it is important to ensure that U.S. sponsored torture never happens again by putting into place safeguards to prevent its reoccurrence.  Knowing who was tortured, why they were tortured, and who ordered the torture, will help determine the appropriate safeguards.
