Fr. Louis Querbes, founder of the Clerics of St. Viator, died in 1859, but his mission continues to resonate with lay and professed members of the religious order he started.

Each year, on the anniversary of his death, they honor his legacy in a variety of ways. From Bogotá, Colombia, and Corozal Town, Belize to Las Vegas, Kankakee and Arlington Heights, Il; community members recommit themselves to his mission of raising up communities of faith and reaching out to those accounted of little importance.

Of special note, was the trip to Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, IL, where 121 Viatorians are buried. Members from the Chicago/Arlington Heights Region of the province placed a red carnation on each footstone and then recited the names of all the Viatorians who have gone before them.

“In the rising of the sun and its going down, we remember them,” they prayed. “In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of the winter, we remember them.

“So long as we live, they too shall live,” they continued, “for they are now part of us, as we remember them.”
