SVHSSaint Viator High School Kicks Off 50th Year

Sharing the Memories, Shaping the Future (book order form)

Nearly 50 years to the day after Viatorian priests and brothers answered the call from the Archdiocese of Chicago and opened a Catholic high school in Chicago’s Northwest suburbs, their legacy continues.

Saint Viator High School starts its 50th year on Friday, when students come from more than 50 communities to receive a rigorous college prep education, steeped in faith formation.

At the opening faculty meeting, Fr. Robert M. Egan, CSV, president, reminded teachers and staff of the school’s founding mission of providing an academically excellent curriculum, while focusing their energies on the religious formation of their students.

“With our Catholic mission, I ask that you be very conscious that we are role models for our students,” Fr. Egan said, “as we pass on the faith tradition of our church to our students and families.”

The school kicked off its milestone celebration in January with a Mass celebrated by Cardinal Francis George, and in April drew more than 900 parents, alumni and supporters for a formal dinner dance at Navy Pier.

“This is a historic time for the Clerics of Saint. Viator and for Saint Viator High School,” says Fr. Egan added. “We are proud of how much our students, faculty and families have accomplished over the last 50 years, and we look forward to continuing to educate our students for life in the 21st Century.”

Over the years, more than 13,000 young men and women have graduated from Saint Viator and Sacred Heart of Mary high schools, which merged in 1988 to become a co-educational Catholic high school.
