Viatorians Shine Light on Immigration Reform

On a bitter cold December night, advocates for immigration reform --- from many different faith communities --- marched in a candlelight vigil toward the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Chicago.
Holding candles, they marched in solidarity to shine a light on human rights. Together, they called for dignity, not deportation; for an end to racial profiling; to end detention and keep families together; and ultimately to create immigrant welcoming legislation.
“As communities of faith as we stand together during this holiday season in support of human rights for immigrants,” says Stephanie Dernek of the 8th Day Center for Justice in Chicago.
Nearly 100 supporters participated. They gathered first at the Chicago Methodist Temple for a solemn prayer service before heading outdoors to make their trek.
