Wanted: Young Adults for Immersion Weeks in Belize
12/27/2011
This June, the Vocations office of the Clerics of St. Viator kicks off a series of weeklong immersion encounters in Corozal Town, Belize. They are aimed at partnering young adults, ages 19-30, in mission with the Viatorians.
Two Belize immersion trips are planned each year, one during the summer and another during Christmas break. Those chosen will work with the Viatorians at St. Francis Xavier Parish in Corozal Town, which ministers to 20,000 people in surrounding villages.
“The purpose of these encounters is to learn about the culture and people of northern Belize, and to experience the ways in which the Viatorians are active in these communities,” says Bart Hisgen of the Vocations office.
“It’s not meant to be a service trip,” he adds. “It’s more about building relationships and having the opportunity to dialogue and pray with young adult Belizeans.”
A maximum of 10 young adults will be accepted. They will be responsible for their airfare and insurance, as well as a $550 fee, to cover transportation, food, lodging and a one-day excursion in Belize. However, financial assistance is available. |
